Book 1 – A Leprechaun’s St. Patrick’s Day by Sarah Kirwan Blazek Illustrated by James Rice

Song: 5 Little Leprechauns
5 little leprechauns standing in a row (hold up 5 fingers)
5 little leprechauns looking for gold (hold hand at eyes – searching)
A Rainbow appeared & led the way (touch hands together to make rainbow)
1 little leprechaun danced away (dance 1 finger behind your back & reappear with 4 fingers)
Repeat the above counting down with 4, 3, 2, 1

Book 2 – The Gingerbread Man & the Leprechaun Loose at School by Laura Murray & Illustrated by Mike Lowery

Fingerplay: Two Mother Pigs

Two mother pigs live in a pen. (Put both thumbs up)
Each had 4 babies and that made 10. (Show all fingers and thumbs)
These 4 babies were black as night. (Hold up 1 hand, thumb in palm)
These 4 babies were black and white. (Hold up other hand, thumb in palm)
But all 8 babies loved to play,
And they rolled and rolled in the mud all day (roll hands over each other)
At night with their mother, they curled in a heap (make fists, palms up)
And squealed and squealed till they all went to sleep.

Literacy Tip
Regularly name the colors you see within your daily activities. The more children hear the names of different colors, the easier it will be for them to identify them.

Examples: I spy a Green Tree, Green Light, Green Grass; Do you want Green Beans or Orange Carrots? Do you want the Green Toy or the Red Toy?
